I loved my time in Cusco. This is such a beautiful city and country with such caring residents. Being able to experience physical therapy here was very challenging yet rewarding. The differences in standards of care and lack of direction took some time to get used to, but I learned to enjoy the autonomy and tried to provide the best care to the patients as possible. Also the immersion was extremely beneficial. Unless you are fluent or proficient in Spanish I highly recommend it. I learned so much in just 3 weeks at the language immersion lessons and the teachers were all incredible. Overall I really enjoyed my experience and would love to come back and visit in the future!

My favorite memory of the program was this one time after the weekend the kids hadn’t seen us and we showed up to the elementary and all the kids would run up to us calling our names and hugging us because they too were very attached. Also the same case in the clinic seeing all their facial expressions change and the smiles on their faces the second we would walk into that clinic.

We traveled to a village about 50 miles away from Cusco and visited a school. The population of this village was primarily indigenous and they did not have access to many “typical amenities”. As it was around Christmas, we made hot chocolate for the children and provided them with gifts.
