My favorite memory of this trip: after working with a little girl at the orphanage for 4 days, it was on the 4th day that I finaly got her to smile, then giggle, then laugh out loud.
The most difficult thing I experienced: adjusting to the living conditions of being hot, hunger, and thirsty most of the time.
What I wish I was better prepared for: making sure I had the proper change for my taxi rides, having enough bottled water, safer food to eat.
Tips for future volunteers: expect the unexpected, error on the side of safety, be flexible and open, if you want something to happen- be prepared and willing to make it happen yourself.
Working with the staff in USA was very efficient and informative.
Working with the staff on site was extremely thorough, informative, and hard working. There were many adjustments and accommodations to be made through out the trip, and she managed it all extremely well.
Yes, I am willing to speak with other volunteers.
My experience has changed me, enriched my life, and I am more than willing to do it again.
