Volunteered at: La Clinica and Regional Hospital
1.-How was the local ABV Coordinator and the support provided in-country?
Rafael was very supporting if we needed anything he would take us to get it or provide us with it. His family was very welcoming and it feels like I was part of the family for a long time.
2- What was the most surprising thing you experienced?
At the program: I was surprise about how different everything at the hospital and clinic was from the US. You have an idea but you don’t really realize how much we are blessed to how the things we have, I was surprised about how welcoming everyone was, to help and how much we got to do hands on things compared to the U.S.
At the accommodation: How supporting they were. I was surprise that the water doesn't run all day
About the country: I was very surprise to see all the different living conditions, it rang so widely in such a small area, in just one city.
3- What was most difficult to experience?
At the program: not being able to communicate, wanted to do more for the hospital , but we did not bring enough to donate.
At the accommodation: Everything was wonderful couldn’t have asked for more.
The country: The mosquitos.!
4- Any tips for future volunteers…
Clothing: shorts, comfortable clothing, towels, toilet paper.
Donations: Please bring Ibuprofen. etc. Gloves, alcohol pads, any other medical supplies you can think of because the clinic and the hospital are limited an supplies paper and writing utensils will help too.
Weather: The weather is always nice; it’s very hot so drink a lot of water and sunscreen
4.1-Other things volunteers should know:
a.- Brush up in Spanish, even if you don’t know but you will learn so much.
b.- Come with an open mind.

6- How would you describe your accommodation, meals and security:
Everything was wonderful, we ate good, had a bed to sleeps in, theere is always someone around to help if you need it.
7- What was your favorite memory of this trip?
Program: Stepping out to vaccinate for the first time, everyone is so warm and welcoming, and how happy they are.
Country: There is so many, we went to many beaches, Pico Bonito, Cayos Cochinos etc. But my favorite is being able to swim in the waterfall.
8.- How was the ABV USA support prior traveling?
Communication (Phone/emails/Online chat):
They emailed us to remind us of everything that we needs, so if we forgot, I could always go back and check in my account.
Website Information: Good, because it gave us a check list.
