Volunteer in Ghana
What was your favorite memory of this trip? anytime I worked with the children in the tutoring sessions or playing with them.
What was the most difficult thing you experienced? knowing that it is very limited in what I can do because of the circumstances of the children
What was the one thing you wished you were better prepared for? nothing, I felt very prepared.
Any tips for future volunteers… (clothing, travel, personal items, donations, sightseeing etc) Go to Wli Falls, lots of hand sanitizer, maybe have some system of communication with the site so you can bring items to help with your project...for instance, I worked on IEP's for the children and wished I had brought paper and a printer cartridge to print these out and place in a binder.
How would you describe/rate your experience working with the ABV staff in the USA? excellent
How was the local ABV Director and the support provided in-country? very supportive and helpful...I felt very safe and informed.
Personal Paragraph (ABV Program Testimonial): I was amazed by the beauty of the country and its people. The home and staff are wonderful to work with and help you with any questions or issues. Their knowledge helps immensely in understanding their mission and what they are trying to do in the community. My host family was very accommodating and I enjoyed eating the native dishes and living in an actual Ghanaian home. It was an experience I will never forget and hopefully I will get to do again!
Are you willing to speak to other potential ABV volunteers? Yes!
