Very friendly, accessible, concerned for my satisfaction and safety
What was the most surprising thing you experienced?
Host family: Large room with private bath! I wasn’t expecting that
Country: number of people/cars/vendors
What was the most challenging thing you experienced?
Host family: rain dripping from the ceiling during heavy rainfall
Country: being called ‘white person’ is cute for a while but eventually craved being a nobody here.
Any tips for future volunteers… (clothing, travel, personal items, donations)
Spend longer than 6 days
Bring snacks from home – I miss chocolate!
Bring an extra battery for your cell phone

This trip opened my eyes to how the people of Ghana live and work! Everyone was very friendly and my coordinator was open and friendly and helpful at all times.
How would you describe your accommodation, meals, security, friendliness, quality others?
My accommodations were great – private room with bath and a lock on the door. The female hosts were sweet cooked delicious meals.
What was your favorite memory of this trip?:
Program: Kids at the orphanage.
Host family: sitting on the veranda of the house in the early evenings
Country: playing with the children. Seeing the moms carrying their babies on their backs.
How was the ABV USA support prior traveling? ( who helped you, emails, phone calls, chat online, how fast did you got the answer, did you got all your answers)
Great support – the information provided gave me everything needed.
What do you think about the reservation system online?
Worked well – very fluid, easy to use.
