Going over the Christmas/new year’s holidays was a little difficult because we couldn’t take small trips with the kids, but the kids are delightful and so much fun to be with. We will miss all of them and the wonderful staff at the orphanage.
1.-How was the local ABV Coordinator and the support provided in-country, give details ?
Very friendly greeting at the airport and with orientation at orphanage. Other than playing with the kids and and helping in the kitchen, there did not seem to be other work to do if you have rainy days, bring games, paint if you get rainy days.. Mr. Wafi is a wonderful man who we enjoyed working with the kids.
2- What was the most positive surprise you experienced?
At the program: All of the staff has been extremely nice and fun to be with.
At the accommodation: Accommodation was nice
About the country: People are very friendly and helpful.
3- What was most difficult/culturalshock to experience?
At the program: Lots of rain in december, so we were looking for many inside projects.
At the accommodation: Warm but the fans are very helpful.
4- Any tips for future volunteers, give as many details as possible…
Clothing: Light clothing, but bring bug spray for mosquitoes.
Donations: Toiletries, art and crafts
Weather: It’s possible to have endless rain.

a. – Snack are available at Mr. Choc’s at a very inexpensive price near the orphanage.

We felt safe during our stay. Meals were fine and the accommodations were nicer than anticipated.
7- What was your favorite memory of this trip?
Program: The children are creative and funny and optimistic and helpful and loving. They are definitely the highlights of the trip.
8.- How was the ABV USA support prior traveling?
Communication (Phone/emails/Online chat): Fine. All emails. Never had to call.
