1.-How was the local ABV Coordinator and the support provided in-country

Airport pickup was great!

2- What was the most positive surprise you experienced?

At the program: The kids! It so warming how they welcome you and immediately look up to you.

At the accommodation: it had Wifi! (to contact my parents)

About the country: How friendly everyone is.

 

3- What was most difficult/cultural shock to experience?

At the program: It was shocking to see how little the children have in comparison to myself.

At the accommodation: Due to hurricane, we had no electricity (no fans or lights or outlets to charge phones or wifi) or running water for 2 days

4- Any tips for future volunteers, give as many details as possible…

Clothing: Long sleeves and pants for nighttime if you do not want to get bit.

Donations: Bring money instead of physical donation. Then see what they need when you get here.

Weather: You will be hot, drink lots of water.  

 

4.1-Other things volunteers should know, about what to bring, what to do in country, what to eat, transportation, other:

a.- Bring a lot of your own food.

b.- Bring hand sanitizer and wipes.

c.- Lots of bug cream and mosquito net!.

d.- Always be kind to everyone.

Spending time with the children here made the hurricane and losing water and power worth it! I wish I could take them home with me. Thank you ABV for allowing me to have this experience which changed my life and made me look at the world in a different way.

 

6- How would you describe your accommodation, meals and security in detail:

I was too nervous to the food but dont worry its good, and I felt extremely secure and safe at the orphanage.

 

7- What was your favorite memory of this trip?

Program: Playing basketball with a boy named Kyron!

Country: Visiting Caye Caulker, trying to learn Creol!

Tours: Snorkeling.
