Volunteer at a youth center, focusing on street children; especially young girls. In Tanzania, many youth (12yrs-20yrs) are left on the streets because they lack any vocational training or skills. The high price of education means that many students drop out at a young age due to lack of funds. This project aims to take these youth off the streets by training them to be self-reliant or self-employed through advocacy, awareness, training, support and counseling.
The project addresses social and physical issues affecting youth, such as gender, reproductive health, and drug abuse through counseling and education. Volunteers help initiate talks about the existence of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections. Help to support the vocational training in tailoring, embroidery, bead work, making batiks & tie-die – allowing girls to start income generating activities for themselves. Volunteers with counseling experience, therapists, teachers, or those with clothes/art design are more than welcome. Prior experience is not required.
Programs are located in the city limits and the suburbs, volunteers will need to take public transportation each day, approximately $3-$4 per day and should budget correctly
